Visitation Monday, April 10, 2017 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at Skillman, McDonald & Vernon FuneAddie Ernest Carter, 83, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 7, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born July 28, 1933 in Mechanicsburg, the son of Ernest & Opal Hester (Conn) Carter.
Addie was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School where he was an FFA Member. He served his country in the United States Army. Afterwards, he and his brother, Atlee formed Carter Brothers Construction. Addie enjoyed gardening, farming, and watching Western movies. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter and granddaughters, whom he loved very much, and he will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sarah Marie (Hiltibran) Carter; his daughter, Melissa Jane (Carter) Carey of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his two granddaughters, Danielle Brianne Carey and Courtney Ashlene (Ryan) Ricks; his brother, Atlee Everett (Loray) Carter of Mechanicsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Addie is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marie & Kathleen Carter and Paula Wolfe; and his brother, Raymond Carter.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, April 10, 2017 in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in the funeral home with Pastor Jesse Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Unionville Center Cemetery, Unionville Center.
