James Michael Bardine, 79, of Urbana, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in his residence.

He was born July 11, 1937 in New Matamoras, Ohio the son of Charles S. and Margaret Elizabeth (Davis) Bardine.

James proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserve. He played football and basketball for Canton South High School, graduating in 1956 upon graduating he attended Northwestern University and Kent State. He worked at Nickels Bakery as a delivery driver and then spent the next 28 years as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman, retiring in 1986 from General Headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Upon retirement he built his and Donna's home in Tryon, North Carolina, returning to Ohio in 2004 making their home in Urbana. James was a Charter Member of the Blue Knights and a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and enjoyed motorcycling and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna Louise (Thomas) Bardine; his son, James Jr. (Susan) Bardine of Panama City, Fla; his daughters, Teri (Laurence) Hunns of Springfield, OH, Vicky (Joseph) Monaghan of N. Lewisburg, OH; his grandchildren, Amanda (Curtis) Black, James (Christina) Bardine, Michael (Amy) Crisp, Elizabeth (Matt) Cardarella; 3 great grandchildren, Jackson, Michael and Matthew (and one on the way).

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son Charles Eugene Bardine; his sisters Nellie Ann Sanford and Freda Sullivan, brother, Charles Bardine as well as several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, April 24, 2017 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana with Pastor Curtis Black officiating. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
